How to Set Up Your Nano X

The Ledger Nano X is Ledger’s award-winning secure, portable crypto hardware wallet that gives you full control of your assets anywhere you go.

This guide walks you through the setup process step by step. You’ll learn how to install Ledger Live, configure your device, and back up your Secret Recovery Phrase all in just a few minutes.

Before you start

• Download Ledger Live for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux) or your mobile device (Apple or Android) by visiting the official Ledger website.
  
• Make sure your Ledger Live is updated to the latest version. This notification will automatically pop-up when you start the Ledger Live app for the first time.

Upon starting Ledger Live, Choose Ledger Nano X as your device from the options presented.

Step 1: Connect Your Nano X

1. Connect your Nano X to your computer using the included USB cable.
   
2. The device will power on automatically.
   
3. Use the black and gray front-facing buttons to scroll through the instructions.
   
4. When you see ‘Set up as new device’, press both the buttons on your Ledger Nano X simultaneously to confirm.

Step 2: Set Your PIN Code

1. The device will then display ‘Enter PIN’ which allows you to place an 4-8-digit PIN code to access your device.

2. Use the buttons to choose each number of your PIN. Press both buttons to confirm each digit of the PIN code you want to set.
   
3. Once complete, press both buttons again when prompted to Confirm PIN, and re-enter it.

Step 3: Write Down Your 24-Word Recovery Phrase

This step is crucial. Your recovery phrase is the only backup of your crypto wallet, without it you will lose access to your funds forever. 

The Ledger Nano X box comes equipped with 3 recovery key sheets, you can use one to write your secret phrase down. 

1. Your Ledger Nano X device will now display ‘Write down your recovery phrase’. This means the next time you scroll right, you’ll see some disclaimers important to the safety of your keys.
   
2. Before you begin writing, you’ll be prompted to press both buttons to continue, meaning this will be the last time you see any instructions or disclaimers before you see the first of the 24 words of your secret recovery key. 

3. Use the recovery sheet provided in the box to carefully write down each word in order. Double-check spelling and sequence once you’ve noted all 24 words.

4. Once done, you may scroll right and press both buttons to start the verification process.
   
5. For each word (1 to 24), scroll to the correct one and press both buttons to confirm.

6. After confirming all 24 words, you’ll see ‘Your recovery phrase is set’. 

Step 5: Finalize Setup

1. Scroll right to view a few final instructions and press both buttons to continue.
   
2. When you see ‘Processing’, your device is finalizing setup.
   
3. Once completed, the device will display ‘Your device is ready’.

Step 6: Installing Apps

1. Scroll right after your device is ready, and press both buttons to access the dashboard.
   
2. You’ll see ‘Install App’ on your device screen. From here you can choose from a multitude of crypto assets and install them on your device.
   1. Note that apps may take space on your device, so if you would like to hold several crypto in your wallet, the process may take installing and uninstalling apps on your device. 
   2. Deleting an app does not remove your assets; they remain on your Ledger Live accounts and these can be accessed and managed again by reinstalling the app.
