What is ChainLink (LINK)

One of the crypto-currencies that received the greatest interest from altcoins investors in 2019 is Chainlink (LINK). ChainLink which is part of Ethereum ERC20 Tokens, was developed by a company called SmartContract, founded in September 2014.
The team is headed by CEO Sergey Nazarov and CTO Steve Ellis.

ChainLink (LINK) features

ChainLink is a platform that aims to bridge the gap between smart contracts which are on the blockchain and real-world applications for businesses and data, which are mainly off the blockchain.

It has two main architectural components: on-chain infrastructure and off-chain infrastructure.

The on-chain infrastructure consists of on-chain contracts called “Oracles” deployed on the Ethereum blockchain. These:
- process the data requests of users who wish to access off-chain data, and
- find and verify real-world data and bring it on-chain to be integrated into smart contracts.

The off-chain infrastructure also consists of “Oracle” nodes connected to the Ethereum network, which collect the user-requested data from off-chain resources.

At present, ChainLink only interfaces with Smart Contracts on the Ethereum blockchain, but it aims to work with multiple networks in the future.

As Link is an Ethereum ERC20 token, you can manage Link using Ledger Live and the Ethereum app on your Ledger hardware wallet. After installing the Ethereum app on your device using Ledger Live, simply send/receive Link to your Ethereum address on Ledger Live.
