Ledger & Spurs Bring First-Ever NBA Tifo To Life

Ledger and the San Antonio Spurs are ‘locked in’ for the Playoffs, making history with the NBA’s first-ever tifo, channeling the passion of the club’s diehard fans, a unique community identity, and European connection via the team roster.

Before You Dive In:

  • In European football, a tifo is a massive hand-crafted banner unfurled by the most dedicated supporters inside the stadium on matchday.
  • For the second round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, Ledger partnered with the San Antonio Spurs, supporter group The Jackals, and local artist Shek Vega to create the NBA’s first-ever tifo.
  • The 80x60ft tifo features the Spurs’ Playoff rallying cry, ‘Locked In’.
  • By bringing the first tifo to the NBA, Ledger and the San Antonio Spurs are connecting the philosophy of physical presence with the imperative of digital ownership.

For the first time in NBA history, Ledger and the San Antonio Spurs are bringing the culture of the tifo, bridging the gap between European football tradition and US basketball fan culture.

The tifo started as an expression of “typhus-like” fever in the terraces of 1960s Italy evolving into one of the most powerful visual languages in global soccer. From the legendary Südtribüne in Dortmund to the intense Rome derbies, the tifo—a massive, fan-created choreographic display—is more than just a pre-match ritual. It is a declaration of presence, a claim to identity, and a demonstration of collective power. And now, through a unique community collaboration, the tifo has come to the Frost Bank Centre.

When the players go out, and they see this for the first time, I want them to know that that is a flag of the community waving back to them, saying “we have your back and we’re ready to go.”
Artist, muralist, and tifo creator, Shek Vega.

The Rise Of The Living Canvas

In European football, a tifo is a massive, fan-choreographed visual display unfurled in the stands at the biggest moments in the sporting calendar. It’s a visual celebration of fan culture, loyalty, and passion for the team.

The 21st-century explosion of tifo culture was driven by a fundamental shift in how fans interact with their teams. As modern sports became increasingly commodified, the “ultras” of Europe sought a way to prove that the heart of the club still beats in the terraces.

Three main catalysts accelerated this rise:

  1. Digital Amplification: Before the smartphone, a tifo was only seen once. Today, a high-impact display lives forever on-chain and on social media, becoming a permanent part of a club’s legacy.
  2. Technological Precision: Advanced digital planning tools now allow fan groups to coordinate thousands of colored cards and hand-painted banners with surgical accuracy, turning entire stadiums into outstanding displays.
  3. The Search for Sovereignty: In an era of globalized franchises, the tifo remains a rare form of fan-generated and owned communication.

By Spurs Fans, For Spurs Fans

The San Antonio Spurs have always been a different kind of franchise. Much like Ledger, they prioritize longevity, discipline, and a global perspective. With a roster that has long served as a bridge between the U.S. and Europe—epitomized today by the French connection of Victor Wembanyama—the Spurs are the perfect partner to host this cultural export.

The San Antonio Spurs have one of the most loyal fan bases in professional sports. Buoyed by an emerging core of young stars and led by the franchise’s newly formed section of diehard fans – The Jackals – The Spurs have built a supporter culture that mirrors the passion and craft of their European counterparts. The team’s first NBA Playoff appearance in seven years is exactly the kind of moment that deserves something bigger than a logo on a banner.

We’re bringing the European atmosphere here. Like, we’re truly bringing that fan club, ultra supporter section feel to the United States.”
Jackals member, Aiden Sterling

Ledger backed this project because it reflects the same values that drive everything Ledger builds. Namely, that individuals and communities should have control and ownership over their identity and culture. True digital ownership is about giving people the freedom to build, create, and operate on their own terms, free from compromise. This tifo is a large-scale, physical representation of that belief.

Behind The Tifo: Local Artist Shek Vega

The artwork for the tifo was created by local San Antonio street artist and muralist Shek Vega, who brought the 80×60 ft piece to life by hand. The piece, which has elements of collage and graffiti and bears the team’s playoff rallying cry “Locked In”, was completed with a community of artists inside a San Antonio warehouse in the days before the playoff opener. The result is a piece of public art, made by the community, for the community.

Murals are big, they’re bold, and they send a very clear message to the community about what’s going on at that moment. I’m super appreciative of the Spurs embracing that aesthetic.”
Artist, muralist, and tifo creator, Shek Vega.

The Jackals did the rest. As the official supporter group of the San Antonio Spurs, The Jackals carried Shek’s creation through Frost Bank Center and unveiled it before tip-off, in front of a playoff crowd, for the first time in NBA history.

Ledger x San Antonio Spurs: History In The Making

Ledger’s partnership with the San Antonio Spurs is grounded in shared values: resilience, community, and the belief that the best things are built together. The tifo is a natural expression of that alignment, a community initiative backed by a brand that believes real value is created when people have the tools and the freedom to build something that matters.
