What is PivX (PIVX)

PIVX is an anonymity-focused cryptocurrency that is a hard fork of DASH, and is comprised of some innovative technologies underscoring its privacy assurances like zero-knowledge proofs.

PIVX stands for “Private Instant Verified Transaction,” which stipulates the currency’s ability to rapidly confirm transactions, coupled with its advanced implementation of the “ZeroCoin Protocol,” a zero-knowledge proof technology for obfuscating links between transactions and addresses. PIVX is a community-governed project.

PivX (PIVX) features

PIVX relies on a hybrid masternode and proof-of-stake (PoS) architecture for reaching consensus on transactions in the network. Notably, PIVX took the community-governance concept of DASH and attached advanced privacy assurances to the protocol with an advanced cryptographic primitive called zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs).

ZKPs are also deployed in privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies like ZCash and Zerocoin.

Private transactions are not default in PIVX, and users can select between two tiers of transactions -- standard transactions and zPIV (private) transactions. PIVX is an open-source protocols with wallets available for Mac, Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS.

PIVX tokens can be staked via the network’s PoS protocol, and specifically, zPIV transactions require staking of PIVX tokens before their generation and execution using the ZKP protocol. The zPIV anonymity protocol is based on Zerocoin, and enables near-complete anonymity for users -- severing any link between sender and receiver, preserving fungibility in the process.

PIVX’s monetary policy is somewhat complicated. The PIVX tokens were originally distributed via proof-of-work (PoW) phase of approximately 43 million tokens, before transitioning to the permanent proof-of-stake implementation where 5 PIVX tokens are perpetually issued per block.

The supply of PIVX tokens will perpetually inflate, but at a diminishing rate over time.

The community governance of PIVX relies on 3 types of proposals: Manifesto, Treasury, Protocol. Manifesto are exceptionally rare, Treasury are common for budget allocation, and Protocol manifest as a form of on-chain governance for the network.
