What is Stratis (STRAT)

Stratis is a blockchain network designed with a blockchain-as-a-service model that targets enterprise use cases and the creation of private, permissioned chains tethered to the Stratis main chain. Stratis offers applied blockchain technologies to increase transparency (e.g., auditability) and reducing the need for trust in enterprise scenarios.

A smart contracts platform capable of hosting sidechains, Stratis is built to be a performant infrastructure for value exchange and enterprise application requirements.

Stratis (STRAT) features

Stratis is a modular blockchain network composed of building blocks in C# and .NET. The platform targets enterprise use cases such as identity solutions, ICO launchpads, sidechains, smart contracts, and full node hosting by companies. The STRAT token functions as the medium of exchange for providing services across the Stratis network.

Stratis is a standalone blockchain with its own smart contract token standard called SRC-20, which is analogous to Ethereum’s ERC-20 token. Comparatively, Stratis focuses on permissioned blockchains for streamlining business processes that require some of the inherent advantages of blockchains while Ethereum is explicitly structured as a permissionless network with a broader application scope.

Stratis is integrated with Microsoft Azure’s cloud platform, where full nodes can be run with ease. Notably, Stratis is flexibly designed to support several design implementations of blockchains. For example, full nodes can choose between proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus, PoW consensus, and proof-of-authority (PoA) consensus engines, along with functioning as peers (i.e., nodes) on either Bitcoin or Stratis.

The network is designed for rapid deployment by enterprises, and is useful as a medium for companies to explore the advantages of blockchain technology in a modular and open-source ecosystem. Some of Stratis’ major partners include Microsoft, Ledger, Changelly, Azure, and Binance.

There are currently just under 100 million STRAT tokens in circulation. One new STRAT token is created with each new block, in perpetuity, following the Stratis ICO in August 2016.
