RLUSD

Aug 14, 2026 | Updated Aug 14, 2026
Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a regulated, U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Ripple for cross-border payments and institutional settlement.

What Is RLUSD?

Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a stablecoin issued by Ripple, with each token backed one-to-one by U.S. dollar deposits, short-term U.S. government securities, and cash equivalents.

RLUSD is a separate asset from XRP, which is the XRP Ledger’s native cryptocurrency. While XRP is used to pay transaction fees, RLUSD is designed for stable-value transfers.

What Is RLUSD Used For?

RLUSD’s primary stated use case is cross-border settlement, where institutions need a stable dollar-denominated asset that moves at blockchain speed. It is also used for treasury management, onchain collateral, and as a regulated dollar leg in DeFi applications on Ethereum.

Direct access to issuance and redemption is subject to eligibility, onboarding, compliance, and jurisdictional requirements set by Ripple and the issuer. Retail users may acquire RLUSD through participating exchanges and regulated on-ramp providers.

As with any fiat-backed stablecoin, RLUSD carries counterparty and issuer risk. Its peg depends on the issuer maintaining and managing reserves as described.

Which Blockchains Support RLUSD?

RLUSD launched on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. On the XRP Ledger, it settles in seconds at low cost, making it suitable for high-volume payment flows. On Ethereum, it functions as an ERC-20 token, enabling integration with DeFi protocols, lending platforms, and smart contracts

DVT-Lite
